Open Letter: Los Robles Master Chorale
Announces Donor Challenge
Dear Friends:
Los Robles Master Chorale has been afforded a fantastic and unique opportunity that will launch our 36th season into new heights! Our board president, Michael O'Sullivan, and our board secretary, Judi O'Sullivan have generously issued a matching donor campaign! Any donation that LRMC receives between May 20, 2013 and June 11, 2013 will be matched dollar for dollar by the O'Sullivans up to $10,000. In addition, our artistic director, Lesley Leighton has pledged to continue the matching campaign for another $2500. What this means to all of us as supporters is that $12,500 in donations between now and June 11th turns into $25,000!!! If you can donate $50 it turns into $100 for the chorale; $250 becomes $500; $500 becomes $1000 and so on!!
Our 36th season will bring choral masterworks written by Handel, Martin, Gretchaninoff and Fauré, along with the world premiere winner of our 4th Annual Young Composer's Competition, and two commissioned works: a 12-minute work written for the full chorale, piano and percussion by previous YCC winner Jordan Nelson; and a multi-media presentation scored for our chamber ensemble, êkō, by film composer Jasper Randall. Los Robles Master Chorale is excited to bring such a varied season of well-known works in addition to premiering three brand new works written for the choral genre - as a regional chorus we thrive on bringing passion-filled performances of music that matters to southern California!

Will Sing Carmina Burana
Carl Orff's bravura choral masterwork, Carmina Burana, will be performed by Los Robles Master Chorale at a special end-of-season concert on Sunday, June 9 at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church in Newbury Park. The classic work, conducted by Artistic Director Lesley Leighton, will pair the chorale with special guest artists, including dual pianists, percussionists, and vocal soloists.
Pianists Lisa Edwards and Mary Kay Altizer and percussionists Sidney Hopson and Lauren Kosty will provide the accompaniment for this spirited classic. Guest soloists will be soprano Deborah Mayhan, tenor Timothy Gonzales, and baritone Abdiel Gonzalez.
One of the most beloved works in the choral repertoire,
Carmina Burana sets a collection of secular poems written
by medieval monks. Despite their religious origins, the songs
celebrate such earthly pleasures as drinking, gambling, dancing,
and lovemaking. The stirring music is widely familiar, having been
used in countless films and television programs.
