Educational Outreach
One key element of Los Robles Master Chorale's mission is its commitment to arts education, with particular emphasis on nurturing the choral singers, conductors, director and supporters of tomorrow. During the 2010-11 season, the chorale will host two educational outreach programs.
On October 2, 2010, LRMC will sponsor its first High School Choral Leadership Workshop, an all-day event led by Artistic Director Lesley Leighton. This will be a rare opportunity for serious high school choral singers, selected by their choir directors, to work in an intimate setting on improving their individual singing and ensemble leadership skills. Singers will focus on healthy choral tone, proper vowel productions, blending voices, and proper musical interpretation. A special session will highlight techniques for sight reading rhythms and intervals. The day is designed for advanced singers and leaders who will share their improved knowledge and skills with their home choruses. Following the morning workshops, all singers will attend sectionals and full rehearsals, then join together for an afternoon performance open to the public. Choir directors are invited to attend with their selected students.
On March 26, 2011 LRMC will feature the second annual High School Choral Festival, a non-competitive, choral singing workshop for high school singers and their directors. All participants will have the opportunity to work in a live rehearsal setting and in separate workshops with Lesley Leighton and Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe, chair of the Thornton School of Music's Department of Choral and Sacred Music at the University of Southern California. The goal is to improve vocal performance, focusing on ensemble building, tone production, vocal technique and musicianship. After the morning clinics, the participating choirs will perform for each other and be adjudicated by both Lesley Leighton and Dr. Scheibe, with a featured festival performance by Los Robles Master Chorale, directed by Lesley Leighton.
