Los Robles Master Chorale caps its 35th anniversary season with the first of two concerts at an exciting new venue: the Performing Arts and Education Center at Agoura High School. Enduring Spirits will feature the chorale performing classic works by Mahler, Bruckner, and Britten, along with contemporary offerings by Eric Whitacre, Michael McGlynn, Alberto Grau, and Marcos Leite. The concert, under the direction of Artistic Director Lesley Leighton, will take place Sunday, May 5 at 7:00 PM.

The concert will include Auferstehung, the final section of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2, "Resurrection"; four motets written by Anton Bruckner between 1861 and 1884; and Benjamin Britten's Hymn to St. Cecilia, performed as part of the worldwide celebration of the centenary of the beloved English composer's birth. Another highlight will be Eric Whitacre's contemporary masterpiece, When David Heard.

The 100-voice chorale will also perform shorter multicultural works from Brazil and Venezuela, along with American spirituals, and the chamber ensemble êkō will sing two selections by Irish composer Michael McGlynn. A pre-concert conversation, which is free to all concertgoers, will offer background information about the music.

The recently opened Agoura Performing Arts and Education Center is fast becoming a cultural hub for the arts in both Los Angeles and Ventura county communities. "We are excited to be in our new performance space for its state-of-the-art facilities, wonderful acoustics and central location," says Leighton. "It is also terrific that we have more seats for our growing audience and extra room on the stage for our chorus, which will be more than 100 next season! We're hoping to forge an ongoing partnership with the Agoura PAEC as a home for Los Robles Master Chorale." On June 9, the chorale will return to the Agoura PAEC for a special performance of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.

Enduring Spirits will be performed Sunday, May 5, at 7:00 PM at the Performing Arts Education Center (PAEC) on the Agoura High School campus, 28545 W. Driver Avenue, Agoura Hills. The pre-concert conversation will begin at 6:00 PM. Tickets are $22 for adults, $18 for students/seniors. Advance tickets are available from the PAEC ticketing site, using the link below. A $3.50 Online Convenience Fee will be charged.
